Sneak Peek

I just noticed that Katie tagged me in a photo from Mallory's six month photo session this afternoon and I had to steal it to show you a sneak peek. I can't wait to see the rest!

Muscle Tee

When Mallory wears sleeveless shirts it looks like she's sporting a muscle tee. Don't let her guns scare you though.

I'm Loving It!

A blogger friend of mine recently opened an Etsy shop called Violet Alice - named after her adorable little girl - and as soon as I saw her darling items, I knew I had to get something for Mallory's six month photo session with Katie this weekend. While her hair has started to fill in more, it seems to be taking it's time to grow longer. So headbands help her look more girly. I still think that if I were to dress her in boys' clothing people would totally think she's a boy. In fact, I might test that theory. I sometimes dare myself to do things. Anyway, off subject.

So, Rachel makes these gorgeous headbands that are so beautiful I want to wear them. They have details about them that you never find with headbands in the chain stores. Even some of the baby boutique shops that I've been in don't have the kind of headbands Rachel makes. I highly recommend going to her shop if you're looking for something handmade and one-of-a-kind. I just received the one that I had her make for me, and I'm loving it! I already had a navy blue and white dress picked out for Mallory to wear so I asked Rachel to match it. I knew it would look good, but once I actually put it on Mallory, I love it even more. It's going to look amazing in the pictures; especially with her baby blues. Here's a sneak peek:

Love at First Sight

Nama and Papa Ted brought Mallory her first Elmo doll. As soon as she got past all the tissue paper, it was love at first sight. She loves her Elmo!

Dear Running,

I know that it's been a little while and I know I keep teasing you when we run a couple of miles during some of my basic training sessions, but I just want you to know that I will be back to running longer and more often soon. Yes I'm having a BLAST* with basic training, but I still miss you too. Besides, the weather this past month has been rainy and cold. But the weather is definitely starting to get nicer and basic training is almost done. So chin up! I'll be back before you know it!

Love,
Jacqueline

*A basic training report to come!

The Haunted Toy

So here it is. The haunted toy. I don't know what you would technically call it because it was a gift out of the wrapper, but I think it's supposed to be a high chair toy. Something to take when you're going out to eat at a restaurant to stick on the table so baby stays entertained for a bit. Honestly, I like the idea of this toy. And Mallory seems to be taking a liking to it. It moves, has bright colors, and the ladybug plays music. However, I no longer like this toy anymore. In fact, it freaks me out; seriously.

It will randomly start playing music out of nowhere, which wouldn't be so weird except for the fact that in order for it to play music the toy requires you to spin it. And during those unexpected music playing moments, there's no spinning of the toy going on. It wasn't so bad at first, but then all of the sudden it's been doing it late at night. And when you're upstairs sleeping and you can hear this music going off on a toy that is downstairs and needs someone or something to spin it in order for it to work, it kinda freaks you out.

After this happening to me a few times now, I decided that the toy needed to have its vocal cords removed. At first I was going to just throw it away but I don't want to because like I said earlier, I like the idea of this toy. Unfortunately there isn't an on/off switch that I can easily solve this problem with. I found tiny - and when I say tiny I mean really tiny - screw holes that looked to be holding the cover to where a small battery would be. I tried every screwdriver we had in the house and none were small enough. I even tried the screwdriver from a glasses kit and had no luck.

And then I came up with an idea. The hammer. Insert evil grin here. I don't know why, but I love breaking things. I even get enjoyment out of giving bushes a roundhouse kick just because they are hanging over into my walking path. Yes I know, I'm weird. So give me a hammer and something to smash and I'm a happy kid. The only drawback was that I couldn't go crazy with my hammering because I didn't want it to burst into a million pieces. I just wanted to break the battery. It surprisingly took me a little while to kill the damn thing but I accomplished it. The ladybug now has a few scars but it doesn't look too bad. I'm now back to liking this toy again. But I swear, if I ever hear it play music again I will for sure throw this possessed thing away. And not even in my garbage can, some other person's that doesn't live anywhere near me.

They're Here to Stay

Went to the doctor yesterday for Mallory's six month check up. A week behind her actual six month mark, but close enough. It's more that I totally forgot to make her an appointment and before I knew it she was six months old. Thankfully her pediatrician has Saturday office hours - clutch for working parents - and still had slots available when I called Friday morning.

She is a hefty 19.4 lbs. (95th percentile) and 26 in. (70th percentile) which means she's short and stout; like the teapot from the nursery rhyme. When the doctor asked how she was doing with taking to fruits and veggies I laughed and said, "Look at her doc. She'll eat anything you give her and then some!" I surprisingly didn't have too many questions to ask, but one of my firsts was about her eyes. I can't believe that Mallory's big, beautiful eyes are blue and wanted to know if they still have a chance of changing. He said they're here to stay. Yesssss! I'm so excited for her, as I think everyone who doesn't have blue eyes at some point in their life wished they did. And statistically speaking, the chances of her having them when both Jody and I have brown eyes is very slim. According to The Tech Museum, 7.8 percent slim. Mallory must be a pretty special kid; born on 10-10-10 and now blue eyes here to stay.

Six Months

Our lives have been so blessed these past six months and it's because of this adorable little girl named Mallory. I am still so much in awe of her and how different she has made me look at life. She is growing up so quickly in both size and skills. She's definitely a chunk; according to Carter's she's already in 12 months clothing. They're a little baggy on her but it's better than being too tight. Don't want her to pass out because her pants are so tight that they prevent her from breathing properly. CPS would start taking notes on me.

Mallory's personality is showing more and more and often times makes Jody and I laugh. She's already a little comedian. Whether her comedy is on purpose, we'll have to wait and see. Her facial expressions are endless and I wish so badly that I could read her mind when she makes them. Though we don't want our little girl to grow up too fast, both Jody and I agree that we enjoy her much more now than when she was a newborn. She is in love with Elmo and will literally stop what she's doing if she hears his voice on TV to turn and look. We now know most of the songs from her DVD's by heart and catch ourselves singing them randomly throughout the day. We just got her her own chair to sit in to watch TV; it makes me less concerned then sitting her on the couch since I've already had to go through one experience of her falling off.

She's doing great with the solids and seems to like everything we've given her with the exception of prunes. Peas, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, bananas, and apples are welcomed with a big open mouth and sometimes can't get in fast enough. So far she's a pretty clean eater but at times gets easily distracted with what's going on around her so the spoon will miss her mouth and end up spilling on her lap. We have perfected our nightly routine and I'm positive it's the reason she continues to sleep through the night. Solid food, play time, bath, bottle, bed. She has recently discovered splashing at bath time and does it so much that I end up just getting in the water with her instead of fighting an uphill battle.

She still prefers to be held as much as possible but I refuse to spoil her too much with it because I don't want her to rely on me to carry her around everywhere. Lord knows she'll need the exercise once she becomes completely mobile seeing as she's got some extra meat on those bones. Though she still tends to be on the quiet side, when she does talk now it's a lot and somewhat loud. I had her in the carrier yesterday while my mom and I were shopping and she was talking so loud that I could barely hear what my mom was saying to me. Sometimes she gets going so much that it starts to sound like she's singing. I love to hear her do this especially because we don't get to hear her do it often.

We are so grateful for this little girl who has blessed our lives and filled it with so much joy and love!

And of course when mom went to go put them back on her face, they had drool all over them.

Ready for Spring

Spring has finally decided to grace us with its presence and I'm definitely okay with it. Rainy day after rainy day gets old real quick. So when this week called for sunny days in the upper-70's, it was a welcoming reminder that I think we're all ready for spring. Which means that our ghost-white little girl needs to be covered as much as possible.
